Don Imus the Slimus |

WHY did they wait so long to chastise Don Imus? After his racial slur against the Rutgers women’s basketball team, he had finally, FINALLY, crossed the line? Whose line? Not my line. I’ve never even heard his show. But from what I’ve read about him, he would not be a person I would listen to anyways. I think that the people who think like him, would be the ones that listen to his show, and the ones that don’t, wouldn’t even know it existed. I’ve already privately censured him. Easy. But by taking him off the air, we’ve created a martyr for his ‘cause’ and cut into MY freedom of speech. Do I believe he should be allowed to say what he said? You bet! Would I listen to it? Not on your life! But by allowing him to say what he says, allows me to say what I want. Imus isn’t going to change his narrowed minded view of life by getting fired. Just as him saying his comment didn’t come out of the proverbial blue. Do you honestly believe that he has never said, or with some various rearrangement thereof, ‘nappy headed hos’ before? No. Just because we’ve never heard him say it on air before, you can be sure he has used it in less public venues: driving his car, out on the town, between his good ‘ol boy drinking buddies. A public apology doesn’t change him and how he views other people. It’s just a flap of the lips with meaningless garble coming out to console the media public for their hurt sensibilities. He hasn’t changed and will probably die a lonely, miserable old man not knowing the difference. But don’t punish me for his stupid outlook on life. Don’t censure me with legalities and red tape as a hypocrite’s masquerade for my own good because he can’t keep his inane comments to himself. Private censorship is easy. It’s the little button labeled ‘Power’. I’ve just taken it away. Have an opinion? Post it here: Dontbanme Forums |
